PGA Golf Club Partners with Thor Guard for Lightning Prediction and Warning

(Port St. Lucie, Fla.) – PGA Golf Club and its sister facility St. Lucie Trail Golf Club have installed several Thor Guard lightning warning systems at their courses.

Owned and operated by the PGA of America, the properties feature 72 championship holes of golf; an innovative, performance-enhancing golf development center; 7,000 square feet of USGA-certified putting greens; and a well-established residential complex. Port St. Lucie and the immediate area is well known for strong storms that develop quickly as air masses move both inland from the Atlantic and overland from the Everglades. These storms typically are accompanied by extensive lightning and damaging winds.

“Thor Guard has a long history of supporting the golf industry and is utilized by many of the best golf facilities and management groups in the world,” says Jimmy Terry, General Manager of PGA Golf Club. “Thor Guard was the easy choice as no other company can provide its proven, predictive service. We’ve connected the Thor Guard data to our Visage-equipped Club Cars so each golfer receives automated Warning and Red Alert messages for added safety beyond the horns and strobe lights.”

“Thor Guard has a long relationship with the PGA Junior Series as well as many PGA Sections throughout the United States,” says Bob Dugan, President of Thor Guard. “We are proud to have been chosen by PGA Golf Club to provide lightning prediction and warning systems for this renowned golf destination, and pleased that Thor PCX and Thor Mobile software is being used to distribute lightning prediction and radar data to everyone at each facility. Historically, the PGA of America has been a strong partner in our educational efforts which have had a significant effect on the lightning safety practices now followed at most outdoor facilities in the United States.”
